Budgets were passed in Carteret, Cranbury, Highland Park, Metuchen, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, and South River they were defeated in Dunellen, East Brunswick, Edisson, Jamesburg, Middlesex, Milltown, Sayreville, South Plainfield, and Spotswood-Helmetta. Woodbridge rejected their school budget by a wide margin, 6530 to 4734. In Hopewell Township, Gordon Lewis defeated alleged sign stealer Mel Myers by a 65%-35% margin. Budgets were passed in Ewing, Lawrence and Princeton, but went down to defeat in Hopewell Valley, East Windsor, Robbinsville and West Windsor. In Hamilton Township, where a huge number of public employees reside, the budget was defeated by a 60%-40% margin, 5516 to 3690. In Monroe Township, where Christie criticized school officials for asking students to report on their parents attitudes toward the budget, the budget was defeated 5637 to 4474. In Marlboro, where Christie had sharply criticized a five year teacher contact that included a 4.6% pay hike, the budget failed, 3044 to 2581.
